Strategies to improve publication activities of the universities participating in Project 5-100
In the recent five years, Russian universities’ publishing activities have increased several times. The authors consider their strategies used to increase publications to be indexed in Scopus database, i. e. publications in foreign journals and conference proceedings, inviting outer authors, so called ‘predatory’ journals. The efficiency of these strategies and their side-effects differ a lot. The universities, intentionally or unwittingly, apply various combinations of strategies based on their intrinsic conditions (administrative practices) and environment (possibility of cooperation). The authors argue that interaction with FASO/RAS institutions is the key driver for several leading Russian universities.

Discipline-specific bibliometric analysis: Quality and performance indexes
Bibliometric studies in geological disciplines are reviewed. Data were selected for the bibliometric study. The main indicators analyzed were: number of publications, Hirsch index, journals impact factor, and IQp. The study task is to reveal interdependence of authors’ indicators and publications bibliometric indicators, and, based on selected indicators, to assess researchers’ quality and performance. The author suggests that IQp may be used to respond to bibliometric inquiries made by discipline experts. The paper is prepared within the framework of the Government Task 2017 for the Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology.

Internet-services providing pirated access to scientific and research materials is a new challenge for research and academic libraries
The author examines the possible impact of pirate services providing access to scientific information on libraries. He names Sci-Hub service as a typical Internet service providing illegal access to research papers and materials. New potential challenges of illegal practices and services for research and academic libraries are formulated. The author emphasizes that new technologies of access to scientific knowledge require that the libraries analyze thoroughly and plan their own services; cooperate closely with publishers to promote new modern methods of access; design and build soft- and hardware packages in statistical control and user logging; control possible illegal activities; train users in appropriate use of science information specify the danger of using “grey” and “black” zones and services.

Study results for the detection of translated plagiarism using bibliometric databases
In the last five years the authors have studied applicability of citation analysis to the problem of detection of translated plagiarism. During these years we verified the efficiency of this method and carried out several applied studies. It enabled us to detect a number of illegal uses of borrowed foreign texts in several research areas. We showed that the method is more efficient in natural and exact sciences as compared to social sciences. Besides, it is more appropriate when analyzing research articles, reviews and reports as compared to other document types.

Musical libraries - what kind of librarians do they need?
The author characterizes musical libraries through ‘ type and variety’ correspondence method. On account of ‘satisfying user professional information needs’, ‘special libraries’ and ‘musical libraries’ correlate as a type and a variety , correspondingly, which means that the former comprises the latter. On account of ‘collection social availability’, musical libraries are seen as a type comprising the following varieties: ‘public musical libraries’ and ‘private musical libraries’. The author rejects the idea that all special libraries make scientific libraries. Specific professional standards of musical librarians are examined in detail.
